Do art sometimes imitates life in pro wrestling?
I mean when the wrestlers think they are their character.
Because I find it hard to believe but it sometimes could happen.
In an interview in "The Arsenio Hall Show" Hulk Hogan had mentioned that wrestlers sometimes thinks that they are in character.
I just heard a rumor about Kurt and Karen Angle divorcing just like their characters in TNA.
And how about The Iron Shiek thinking he's still The Iron Shiek with his interviews.
So my question is:Do professional wrestling gets mixed with the wrestler's personal life itself???
If you mean are there any storylines/gimmicks that reflect actual goings-on in a wrestler's life, yes. There have been a few storylines.
Kurt and Karen getting divorced IRL is most probably just a coincidence because the storyline was nipped in the bud months after word got out that they were splitting up.
Anyway, CM Punk is a prime example of "art imitating life"; his Straight-Edge gimmick is entirely based on his real-life lifestyle.
Christian Cage once revealed in an interview that he is, quote-unquote, a "smart-ass by nature", hence the Captain Charisma gimmick.
Heel Shawn Michaels was the same Shawn Michaels in real life until he became a born-again Christian.
Triple H and Chyna actually did date in real life.
Edge and Matt Hardy was a real-life feud.
So was Bret Hart-Shawn Michaels.
Rey Mysterio winning the WHC had a lot to do with his friendship with Eddie Guerrero.
Unless I'm mistaken the "I Quit" Match between Mick Foley and Ric Flair a couple of years ago was based on a real-life disagreement they had.
