If you Have ProTools and a Pc with a Audio technica at2020 mic do you need a mixiing Board?
do i need a mixing board bcuz im Getting pro tools and i putting it on my pc cuz a laptop iz to expensive rite now and i want a good compressed studio sound so imma get that pro tools, M-Box 2,audio technica at2020 mic,shud that be enuff???
The MBox 2 will run the AT mic OK without a mixing board - it has an XLR mic input with Phantom Power, plus a line input. As long as you don;t want to record multiple microphones, you're OK with this.
You can use software compressors and EQ to tailor the sound of the mic. Of course, budget allowing you could always add a channel strip or external preamp with compressor and EQ, for potentially higher quality sound.
Hit the library and read up in backissues of magazines -- Sound on Sound, Electronic Musician, Recording, Keyboard, FutureMusic, Computer Music, MIX, EQ. They often have how-to articles and comparative reviews of software, mics and interfaces.
